An Oakland sponsored hospice team is inviting walkers to a 10 or 22-mile trek along the county’s scenic waterways to raise funds for its care.
St Richard's Hospice's Waterways Walk is returning after a six-year break and will take place on Sunday, August 17, in and around Worcester and Droitwich.
Participants can choose to walk a 10-mile one-way route along the Worcester-Birmingham Canal, starting in Diglis, Worcester, and finishing at Droitwich Rugby Club.
Alternatively, there is the option to walk a 22-mile circular route along canal towpaths and the River Severn, starting and finishing at Droitwich Rugby Club.
Sofia Gunster, events and community fundraising lead at the Worcester-based hospice, said: "It’s great to have the Waterways Walk back, as supporters have really enjoyed the challenge in previous years.
"It’s a fantastic way to get out there and experience the beauty of our local waterways while also raising important funds for our hospice care.
"What’s more, both routes are flat making this a great challenge for walkers of a range of abilities."
To help support the hospice, part of the challenge is for walkers to get sponsorship for their efforts.
The money raised will help the hospice continue to provide care and services to patients with incurable illnesses and their loved ones.
Dave Rawlings, managing director at event sponsor Oakland Air Control, said: "Oakland are delighted to once again sponsor an event for St Richard’s Hospice with this year’s Waterways Walk.
"We are looking forward to entering a team for the full canal circuit, joining others in raising much needed funds for the hospice to help them carry out the great work they do."
